Happiness Matters Too — Why Celebrations Are Important for Children
January 24, 2026
For many children living in care homes and ashrams, life is safe and structured, but often emotionally quiet. Food arrives on time, routines are followed, and basic needs are met. Yet something essential is missing. Birthdays pass without candles, festivals arrive without excitement, and childhood moves forward without moments that feel personal or joyful.
Over time, this absence of celebration leaves a deeper mark than we realise.
Citare Foundation has seen this reality closely. While physical care keeps children protected, emotional care gives them a reason to feel alive. A child does not only need shelter to grow—they need to feel noticed, included, and happy.
This belief is what drives Citare Foundation’s happiness initiatives. Through simple celebration days at places like Anant Aashram, the foundation brings together hundreds of children—sometimes up to 350 at once—for moments that break routine. These are not formal events or structured programs. They are days filled with shared meals, laughter, games, and the rare freedom to simply enjoy being a child.
For many children, one day of celebration does something remarkable. It cuts through months of emotional silence. It reminds them that someone thought about their happiness. That their presence matters. That childhood, even in care, can still hold moments of warmth.
These experiences do more than create smiles. They quietly build confidence. They help children interact more openly, trust more easily, and feel less invisible. Long after the celebration ends, its effect shows in how children carry themselves, learn, and connect with others.
Citare Foundation does not see celebrations as extras or rewards. They are seen as necessary moments of emotional healing. When children are allowed to feel joy without conditions, it supports their mental and emotional growth in ways no routine ever can. Every celebration is planned with care. Every child is included. Safety and dignity remain central. The goal is never to impress or showcase—it is to connect, genuinely and respectfully.
Citare Foundation may be new, but its work reflects a simple truth: Every child deserves moments of joy, no matter where they come from or where they live.
